I went to see the Agnes Martin show yesterday and again today, I felt that some of the work was just so beautiful and some wasn’t. The room of Islands was amazing but on asking the steward how he felt about it he said that it was torture as the white was so bright it became painful on the eyes, interesting, I spent longer in this room and can well understand how this can happen. I also went to the talk ‘painting with my back to the world’ I thought that it would be an insightful discussion regarding her paintings but it was primarily about her schizophrenia and how it may have affected her work, it was a disappointing talk, the audience were mainly mental health workers and the invited speakers didn’t speak with any passion about the work, it was almost as if her mental state was more important than the art.
Shed will be having a few more beauty treatments tomorrow, this evening I will be making the wood filler, I have a bag of sawdust and the glue so I hope it works okay. Filling in some of the holes may turn out to be a major job….
I am one of the artists that have been commissioned to make work for the project ‘Amazing Spaces’, curated by Bron Bradshaw @Dove Arts. My project is a mural on a shed, in order for the shed to have a personality it will in future be referred to as ‘Shed’. At present Shed is being given the once over so that he is ready for his face lift! Watch this space!
