SAW

Posted on Sep 2, 2020

Due to Covid 19 this year Somerset Arts Weeks will be ‘VIRTUAL’. ┬áthis is the first time that we have done this so it is very much trial and error how ever, good things are happening and I for one am having to address my IT skills especially regarding updating my website!

I am one of the 63 Somerset Reacquainted artists, this project has been an interesting one which has taken place during ‘lockdown’ it was a great way of finding a focus for work in a time where every day could feel the same and motivation could easily flounder. This work will be on show at The Rural Life Museum, Glastonbury, 19 September – 21 November, opening hours Wed – Sat 10 – 5pm, booking essential

In October I will be starting my Still Life in Oils workshops, they are all day on a Monday and will be at ACE in Somerton, please contact me directly for further information 07970903128

If you would like to make an appointment to come and see some of my work during SAW please contact me to make an appointment…

I recently learnt that all the funds from the RA Summer Show go to fund the RA Art School, which is the only free art school in the UK, so when you are tempted to grumble about not being selected and what a waste of money it was, think on, we are all helping another generation of talented artists to pursue their dreams!…

I went to see the Agnes Martin show yesterday and again today, I felt that some of the work was just so beautiful and some wasn't. The room of Islands was amazing but on asking the steward how he felt about it he said that it was torture as the white was so bright it became painful on the eyes, interesting, I spent longer in this room and can well understand how this can happen. I also went to the talk 'painting with my back to the world' I thought that it would be an insightful discussion regarding her paintings but it was primarily about her schizophrenia and how it may have affected her work, it was a disappointing talk, the audience were mainly mental health workers and the invited speakers didn't speak with any passion about the work, it was almost as if her mental state was more important than the art.…

I am one of the artists that have been commissioned to make work for the project 'Amazing Spaces', curated by Bron Bradshaw @Dove Arts. My project is a mural on a shed, in order for the shed to have a personality it will in future be referred to as 'Shed'. At present Shed is being given the once over so that he is ready for his face lift! Watch this space!
